Construction Law Canada is Back!

Welcome to (or welcome back to) Construction Law Canada, the past, present and future home of high quality commentary, legal analysis, resources and guides to all things construction law related in Canada.

This website was originally created by the late Thomas G. Heintzman, OC, QC, LLD (Hon.), FCIArb. Tom was a legendarily accomplished lawyer, author, and arbitrator in the area of construction law. Among the many contributions Tom made to the area of construction law was his authoring of the seminal text, Heintzman & Goldsmith on Canadian Building Contracts, which he co-authored with Immanuel Goldsmith for 25 years.

Tom passed away in October, 2019, leaving an enduring legacy in many areas, including the book, Canadian Building Contracts, and this website, both of which are now being carried forward by myself and, in the case of this website, a new generation of contributors as identified on the “About” page. The contributors to this site acknowledge and thank Tom for his vast contributions and this legacy, and seek to continue to build upon the terrific body of scholarship and work that Tom established.

As we move forward with this new version of Construction Law Canada, we will be opening the door to other potential legal opinion contributors from across Canada to build what we hope will become a central repository of high-level legal analysis helpful to other practitioners, industry professionals and laypersons engaged with construction law matters.

While I sincerely hope this website will be helpful with your questions and research, if you have come here looking for legal advice, I suggest you consult your friendly neighborhood lawyer.
